OnePlus has officially confirmed the end of its five-year collaboration with iconic camera maker Hasselblad. The partnership, which played a key role in refining color science and computational photography on OnePlus devices, will now be replaced by the company’s own imaging technology called the OnePlus DetailMax Engine.
Reflecting on the journey, OnePlus highlighted that Hasselblad’s “refined aesthetic sense” has become part of the brand’s imaging DNA. The partnership aimed to combine Hasselblad’s expertise in color science with OnePlus’s software optimizations to deliver natural and true-to-life images for smartphone users.
With the transition, OnePlus is focusing on its in-house DetailMax Engine, developed to meet growing user demands for clear and realistic images even during close-up zoom. According to the company, the new engine has been built from scratch and represents a step forward in computational imaging, designed to produce photos with greater depth, clarity, and realism without unnecessary beautification or distortion. It will rely on advanced algorithms and enhanced processing power to capture more visual data.
Although the DetailMax Engine is still in prototype testing, OnePlus is confident that its next flagship—widely expected to be the OnePlus 15—will redefine clarity standards in its class. The announcement also ties into speculation around OPPO’s Lumo Image Engine for the Chinese market, where OnePlus smartphones run ColorOS, suggesting that the DetailMax Engine could be its global branding.
