Samsung is reportedly preparing to expand its Galaxy Z Fold lineup in 2026 with not one, but two new models, according to Korean media reports. Among them is a “wide-type” Fold, designed to break from the traditional tall, narrow form factor of previous models.

The wide model is expected to feature two 18:9 panels that unfold into a nearly square 18:18 inner display. This contrasts with the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s 18:20 aspect ratio and could enhance experiences such as gaming, multitasking, and video consumption. The second model is likely a direct successor to the Fold 7, retaining a similar format to previous generations.

Unlike the 2024 Z Fold Special Edition, which was limited to Korea and China, the wide model is reportedly intended for global release. Samsung has yet to confirm specifications, but both devices are expected to launch in the second half of 2026.

The timing is notable, as Apple is widely expected to unveil its first foldable iPhone around the same period. Analysts at Omdia forecast foldable smartphone shipments to rise from 23.5 million units in 2025 (2.2% of all smartphones) to over 51 million in 2027, with Apple’s entry acting as a key growth catalyst.

Samsung is also reportedly preparing its first Galaxy Z TriFold for a late 2025 release in South Korea and China, testing a new form factor ahead of Apple’s foldable launch.

If these reports hold, Samsung’s 2026 strategy will likely focus on diversifying its Fold series to appeal to both productivity-focused users and those seeking a more tablet-like experience, reinforcing its lead in the foldable smartphone market as competitors approach.
