Nothing has officially confirmed the launch of its next big software upgrade — Nothing OS 4.0. Based on Android 16, the new version is described as both “Refined” and “Redefined,” signaling improvements across performance, design, and features. While the company hasn’t revealed an exact release date, the stable rollout is expected to begin very soon.

The first teaser for Nothing OS 4.0 appeared during the Nothing Phone (3) launch event in July, marking the company’s first true flagship release. A closed beta of OS 4.0 was made available to select Phone (3) users shortly after, but it didn’t expand to other devices. Now, the stable version will roll out directly to eligible models.
Eligible devices for Nothing OS 4.0 include:
- Nothing Phone (3)
- Nothing Phone (3a)
- Nothing Phone (3a) Pro
- Nothing Phone (2)
- Nothing Phone (2a)
- Nothing Phone (2a) Plus
- CMF Phone 1
- CMF Phone 2 Pro
The Nothing Phone (1) is missing from this list since it has already received the three promised OS updates. However, Carl Pei recently confirmed on X that the company is working on a program for Phone (1) owners, which could potentially allow them to upgrade to newer devices at discounted prices.
The rollout of Nothing OS 4.0 will begin with the Nothing Phone (3) before gradually expanding to other eligible models. Given Nothing’s relatively small lineup of devices, the update process is expected to complete quickly once it starts.
With Android 16 as its foundation, Nothing OS 4.0 should bring a host of refinements in animations, performance, privacy, and system stability, further enhancing the user experience on Nothing devices. More details on features are expected to be revealed closer to launch.
