Apple has officially rolled out iOS 27 Beta 2 for developers, introducing several new features powered by Apple Intelligence along with system stability improvements. The update focuses on enhancing AI-powered experiences, improving communication, and adding better device management tools.

The latest beta update also brings a brand-new AI photo expansion feature, upgrades Siri’s writing capabilities, improves RCS messaging, and introduces a new recovery mode that allows users to repair their devices without requiring a computer.

AI-Powered Extend Tool Arrives in Photos App

One of the biggest additions in iOS 27 Beta 2 is the new Extend feature inside the Photos app. Powered by Apple Intelligence, this tool can generate additional image content beyond the original photo frame.

Similar to AI image expansion tools offered by other platforms, Extend analyzes the existing image and creates new content around it. Apple demonstrated that the feature can generate realistic backgrounds, additional objects, and scene details while maintaining a natural appearance.

However, Apple notes that the generated content may not always match reality. While the expanded image often looks convincing, it should not be considered an accurate representation of what existed outside the original frame.

Wallet App Gets New Insights Feature

Apple Wallet now includes a new feature called Insights, allowing users to connect multiple financial accounts and monitor spending directly from the Wallet app.

Users can view:

  • Account balances
  • Spending trends
  • Recurring payments
  • Transaction history
  • Financial summaries

Apple says account information is processed securely and is not stored permanently by the company.

Writing Tools Become “Write with Siri”

Apple has integrated its AI writing tools more deeply into Siri. Previously available as a separate Writing Tools panel, the feature is now renamed Write with Siri.

Users can:

  • Generate text using natural language prompts
  • Rewrite content in different styles
  • Proofread documents
  • Improve grammar and readability

The feature now appears directly within the keyboard interface, making it easier to access while typing.

RCS Messaging Gets Smarter

Apple continues improving communication between iPhone and Android users by expanding RCS support.

New RCS features include:

  • Inline message replies
  • Improved emoji reactions
  • Better media interaction
  • More iMessage-like conversation experience

Emoji reactions on photos and videos now appear visually over media content instead of showing as plain text notifications.

New Recovery Mode Without a Computer

iOS 27 introduces a new recovery environment that allows users to troubleshoot and restore their devices without connecting to a Mac or PC.

The new recovery mode includes:

  • Recovery Assistant
  • Software Update
  • Diagnostic Mode
  • Erase All Content and Settings
  • Traditional Recovery Mode

This feature can be especially useful when a software update fails or if the device becomes stuck during the boot process.

Home App Can Update Apple TV Remotely

Apple has also improved the Home app by allowing users to remotely install software updates on Apple TV devices. The feature works similarly to HomePod management and eliminates the need to access the Apple TV directly.

AirPods Max 2 Beta Firmware Support Returns

With iOS 27 Beta 2, Apple has restored the ability to install beta firmware updates on AirPods Max 2. Users can enable beta updates through Bluetooth settings and receive firmware upgrades automatically when the headphones are charging near a paired Apple device.

AirPort Utility App Being Phased Out

Apple has also confirmed that the AirPort Utility app will gradually disappear from the App Store. New users will no longer be able to download the application, although users who previously downloaded it can continue reinstalling it.

The utility was originally designed to manage older Apple networking products such as AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme, and Time Capsule.

What About Apple’s Foldable iPhone?

In related Apple news, reports suggest Samsung Display has received approval to begin mass production of OLED panels for Apple’s first foldable iPhone. Samsung is expected to be the exclusive supplier of the display panels, with initial production estimated at around 3 million units.

The foldable iPhone is widely expected to debut later this year, although some supply chain reports indicate certain components, including the hinge mechanism, are still facing production challenges.

Final Thoughts

iOS 27 Beta 2 focuses heavily on Apple Intelligence and user convenience. The AI-powered Extend photo tool, Wallet Insights, improved Siri writing features, and enhanced RCS messaging make this one of the most feature-packed beta updates so far.

As Apple continues refining the software ahead of its public release, more features and improvements are expected in upcoming beta builds.
