Tesla CEO Elon Musk has confirmed an ambitious rollout for the company’s autonomous driving technology this June, with two major developments on the horizon. First, Tesla will officially launch its Robotaxi platform in Austin, Texas on June 12, marking a pivotal moment in the company’s journey toward fully autonomous vehicles. Second, Musk revealed that Tesla vehicles will begin making self-driving deliveries to customers, eliminating the need for showrooms or human drivers.
Tesla has already begun testing autonomous Model Y SUVs on public roads in Austin, operating without anyone in the driver’s seat. The trials have progressed smoothly, with no accidents reported, placing the company ahead of schedule. According to Musk, customers in Austin will soon witness driverless Teslas arriving at their doorsteps, a groundbreaking step in Tesla’s delivery model.

Initially, the Robotaxi fleet will consist of around 10 Model Y units, operating within the city. As safety and reliability are demonstrated, Tesla plans to expand the service to a wider area. By the end of June, Musk claims, visitors could fly to Austin and hail a Robotaxi without ever interacting with a human driver.
Tesla’s Robotaxi approach differs significantly from other autonomous driving projects. Rather than relying on LiDAR and other complex sensor arrays, Tesla sticks to a camera-only system supported by advanced neural networks. While its current Full Self-Driving (FSD) suite remains under the umbrella of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), this new initiative signifies a substantial leap toward true autonomy.
Beyond revolutionizing urban transport, these advancements promise to streamline the car-buying process. Consumers may soon be able to purchase a Tesla online and have it delivered autonomously, avoiding traditional dealership negotiations and logistics.
With these updates, Tesla continues to lead innovation in the EV and autonomous driving sector, setting new standards for convenience, safety, and futuristic mobility. If successful, the June rollout in Austin could signal a transformational shift in how vehicles are owned, delivered, and used.
