Samsung may be planning a major design change for its next Ultra phone. New CAD renders of the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra have leaked, giving us an early look at what the phone could look like.
The renders come from well-known leaker OnLeaks and show that Samsung is keeping much of the familiar Ultra design. However, there is one big change that stands out right away: the rear camera setup.
A new camera design is coming
The Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to move away from the camera layout used on recent Ultra models. Instead of placing the cameras separately along the left side, Samsung appears to be using a raised camera platform across the top portion of the phone.
The new design looks different from the Galaxy S26 Ultra. It also gives Samsung more space around the cameras, which could help with larger camera hardware and cooling.
The design may also make it easier for Samsung to support magnetic charging accessories. The change could make the phone look more modern while also giving Samsung more room inside the phone.
The camera platform is expected to be quite thick. The phone itself is said to be around 7.97mm thick, while the camera bump could reach about 12.53mm.
Three rear cameras instead of four
The leaked renders also appear to show three rear cameras. This could mean Samsung is finally removing the separate 10-megapixel 3x telephoto camera.
Rumors suggest the Galaxy S27 Ultra could use a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera and a 50-megapixel 5x telephoto camera. The main camera could use Samsung’s ISOCELL HIP6 sensor with a 1/1.3-inch size.
If these changes are accurate, Samsung may be focusing on fewer but more capable cameras instead of simply adding more lenses to the back of the phone.
Galaxy S27 Ultra size and display
According to the leaked information, the Galaxy S27 Ultra could measure around 163.76 x 78.25 x 7.97mm.
That would make it only slightly larger than the Galaxy S26 Ultra. The phone is also expected to keep a large 6.9-inch display with a small hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera.
The exact weight is not known yet, but the new camera platform could add some weight to the phone.
The S Pen is staying
There is also good news for people who like the S Pen. The leaked design shows that Samsung is expected to keep the built-in S Pen slot on the Galaxy S27 Ultra.
This means Samsung does not appear to be ready to remove the S Pen from its top Ultra phone. The renders show the S Pen silo on the bottom of the device.
A much bigger battery could be coming
Samsung may also make a big change inside the Galaxy S27 Ultra.
After using silicon-carbon battery technology in its newer foldable phones, Samsung is expected to bring the technology to the Galaxy S series. Leaks have pointed to a battery of around 5,700mAh for the Galaxy S27 Ultra.
That would be a noticeable increase over the Galaxy S26 Ultra. A larger battery combined with a newer processor could give users longer battery life, although the real-world results will depend on the final hardware and software.
Snapdragon or Exynos?
The Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to use a new Qualcomm flagship processor. The chip is currently rumored to be called the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Extreme.
Samsung could also use its own Exynos 2700 processor in some markets. Recent reports suggest Samsung has been testing the chip and that it could offer strong performance and good power efficiency.
There are also reports that Samsung may not use LPDDR6 RAM or UFS 5.0 storage in the Galaxy S27 Ultra.
Galaxy S27 Ultra price and launch date
Samsung has not announced the Galaxy S27 Ultra yet, so the launch date and price are not official.
Samsung changed the timing of its Galaxy S launch this year, with the Galaxy S26 series arriving later than some previous generations. Based on the current schedule, the Galaxy S27 series could be announced in February 2027, possibly just before Mobile World Congress.
The price could be another concern. Rumors suggest Samsung may increase the starting price by another $100. If that happens, the Galaxy S27 Ultra could start at around $1,399 in the US.
That would make it an expensive phone, but Samsung is not alone in raising flagship prices. Higher memory and component costs are already putting pressure on smartphone makers.
What to expect from the Galaxy S27 Ultra
The Galaxy S27 Ultra looks set to be an evolution rather than a complete redesign. The screen size, overall shape and S Pen are expected to remain familiar, while the rear camera system could get the biggest visual change.
A larger battery, new processor options and upgraded cameras could also make the phone a meaningful upgrade over the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
Of course, all of these details are based on leaks and early reports. Samsung will reveal the official specifications, price and features closer to launch.
