Carl Pei, CEO of Nothing, has revealed major plans to strengthen the company’s presence in India, including a $100 million joint venture with Optiemus. The announcement was made after his meeting with Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, India’s Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, highlighting India’s role as a global hub for consumer technology innovation.

In his statement, Pei praised Minister Vaishnaw as “the driving force behind Make in India and the country’s thriving tech ecosystem.” Expressing optimism, he emphasized that India will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the smartphone industry worldwide. This vision closely aligns with Nothing’s expansion blueprint and the Indian government’s goal of fostering domestic manufacturing.

A central part of this strategy focuses on CMF, Nothing’s sub-brand. Pei confirmed that CMF will be set up as a subsidiary headquartered in India with the ambition to evolve into “the country’s first truly global consumer tech brand, built from India to the world.” Leveraging its complete in-house capabilities, the company is confident in establishing CMF as a globally competitive technology label.

To bring this vision to reality, Nothing is partnering with Optiemus, one of India’s leading technology manufacturers, through a newly formed joint venture. This $100 million investment over three years is projected to create more than 1,800 jobs in India, reinforcing the nation’s manufacturing ecosystem. The collaboration further strengthens Nothing’s long-term commitment to India as a core market.

The move not only solidifies India’s position in global technology supply chains but also underlines the growing influence of brands that adopt a “Made in India” foundation. With this expansion, Nothing aims to integrate deeper into the Indian tech industry while pushing CMF to compete on the world stage. For more smartphone news and updates, check out PassionateGeekz.
