Apple has officially entered the foldable smartphone market with the launch of the iPhone Duo. The new device brings a completely different design to the iPhone family, opening like a book to reveal a much larger display while keeping a compact outer screen for everyday use.
The iPhone Duo has a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch inner display. When opened, it becomes the largest display ever offered on an iPhone. The camera system includes a 48MP Fusion Main camera with optical-quality 2x telephoto capability. The camera supports 4K video recording at up to 120fps in Dolby Vision. Apple has also introduced features such as Smart Take, Duo Preview and Dual Capture that take advantage of the foldable design. A new under-display FaceTime camera is included on the inner screen.
The iPhone Duo uses a dual-battery architecture, with one high-energy battery positioned in each side of the device. Apple rates it for up to 31 hours of video playback using the inner display and up to 44 hours using the outer display. When both displays are used equally, Apple claims up to 24 hours of usage per charge.
The phone supports fast charging, reaching up to 50 percent in around 20 minutes. Wireless charging can reach 50 percent in around 30 minutes with a compatible MagSafe or Qi2 charger.
The iPhone Duo uses an eSIM-only design worldwide. It includes Apple’s N1 wireless networking chip with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread support, along with the C2 cellular modem system. The phone is built from grade 5 titanium and carries an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.
