Apple has officially launched the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, bringing major changes to the camera system, processor, battery and AI experience. The new Pro models are powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip and introduce variable aperture technology to the main camera for the first time on an iPhone.
The new models also feature a smaller Dynamic Island, improved thermal management, faster charging and the next generation of Apple Intelligence with Siri AI. The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at $1,299.

iPhone 18 Pro Compared With the Previous Generation
The iPhone 18 Pro series focuses heavily on sustained performance. Apple has redesigned the vapor chamber with three times more surface area than the previous-generation iPhone 17 Pro and says the new system can provide up to 40 percent better sustained performance.
The camera also receives one of the biggest changes. The previous generation focused on computational photography and fixed-aperture imaging, while the iPhone 18 Pro introduces a 48MP Fusion Main camera with a physical variable aperture. The aperture can automatically adjust for lighting and depth of field, while users can manually control it through the new Pro controls.
The A20 Pro also moves to a 2-nanometer process and adds a Dual 16-core Neural Engine. Apple says the new chip delivers up to 40 percent faster GPU performance than A19 Pro and double the AI processing power, giving the new phones a stronger foundation for Apple Intelligence and demanding applications.

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max feature Apple’s new A20 Pro chipset, built using 2-nanometer process technology. The chip has a 6-core CPU, a 7-core GPU and a Dual 16-core Neural Engine. Apple says the A20 Pro offers 50 percent more memory bandwidth than A19 Pro and up to 40 percent faster GPU performance.

Apple has also introduced Apple Reference Image, which can create an unalterable reference version of a photograph using signed sensor data. This is designed to help users verify what the camera actually captured and identify later changes. Apple is also adding support for image-authentication technologies designed to help identify AI-generated or edited images.
The Dynamic Island has been redesigned and can now display up to three Live Activities at once. Face ID remains available on both Pro models.
Both phones use Apple’s N1 wireless networking chip with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread. The C2 cellular modem brings AI-powered improvements to connectivity, with Apple saying it provides faster uploads than C1X while consuming 15 percent less energy.
The iPhone 18 Pro offers up to 36 hours of video playback on eSIM-only models, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max reaches up to 45 hours. The iPhone 18 Pro can charge to 50 percent in around 15 minutes using wired charging or around 30 minutes wirelessly.
The phones run iOS 27 with Apple Intelligence and Siri AI. Siri can use personal context, understand what’s on the screen, answer questions and take actions. Apple Intelligence also powers features such as image editing, Image Playground and Safari’s Notify Me feature.
