OnePlus and Realme Are Switching to ColorOS, OxygenOS and Realme UI Will Be Phased Out

OnePlus and Realme have officially confirmed a major software strategy change. Both brands will gradually replace their custom Android skins, OxygenOS and Realme UI, with OPPO’s ColorOS. The companies say this move is aimed at improving software development efficiency while delivering faster updates and a more stable user experience.

Although this is a significant branding change, OnePlus and Realme have assured users that their smartphones will continue to offer the same smooth performance, reliable software support, and hardware experience they are known for.

Why Are OnePlus and Realme Moving to ColorOS?

According to OnePlus, OxygenOS and ColorOS have already been sharing the same Android codebase for several years. Maintaining separate software platforms has become increasingly resource-intensive, so the company has decided to unify development under a single operating system.

This change will allow engineering teams to focus on one platform, helping speed up software development, improve system stability, and deliver updates more efficiently across devices.

Realme has also confirmed that its Realme UI will eventually be replaced by ColorOS. The company emphasized that the transition is mainly focused on software branding and development, while the overall user experience and promised software support will remain unchanged.

ColorOS 17 Update Timeline

OnePlus has confirmed that eligible smartphones will receive the option to upgrade after the official release of ColorOS 17. The company also clarified that the update will initially be optional, allowing users to decide when to switch.

At the moment, neither OnePlus nor Realme has shared a detailed list of supported devices or a rollout schedule. The official roadmap is expected to be announced closer to the release of ColorOS 17.

For now, OnePlus and Realme users in India do not need to worry. Both brands have confirmed that current smartphones will continue receiving regular Android updates and security patches as previously promised.
