YouTube Rolls Out Five Powerful New Tools to Boost Creator Experience on Smart TVs

YouTube has announced five major upgrades designed to elevate the viewing experience on televisions, giving creators more tools to optimize content for large screens. As smart TVs continue to dominate household streaming, these improvements aim to deliver richer visuals, better discoverability, and a smoother shopping experience for viewers.

The first major enhancement is the dramatic increase in thumbnail upload size. The previous limit of 2MB has now been expanded to 50MB, allowing creators to upload sharper, high-quality thumbnails without compression. This move ensures thumbnails retain clarity on large TV displays, improving click-through rates and enhancing visual appeal.

Another standout upgrade is YouTube’s AI-powered upscaling, which can automatically enhance SD videos to 1080p HD when viewed on TV. Users can expect cleaner visuals even if the original upload wasn’t high resolution. Creators and viewers will also have opt-out controls, and YouTube has hinted that video enhancement could soon scale up to 4K quality.

YouTube is also bringing immersive channel homepage previews to its TV interface. Instead of immediately jumping into a video list, viewers will see an interactive preview carousel showcasing a channel’s latest and most popular uploads. This makes discovering new content more engaging and visually dynamic.

Search improvements are part of the rollout too. With contextual search, viewers searching for a specific creator on TV will see their content prioritized at the top of results, reducing feed clutter and ensuring faster access to preferred channels.

On the shopping front, YouTube is strengthening its commerce tools by introducing QR-code-based purchases for videos tagged with products. Viewers can scan a QR code with their smartphones and complete purchases instantly — a feature designed to improve conversion for creators and brands participating in YouTube Shopping.

YouTube confirms that more upgrades are in development, reinforcing its push toward a premium multi-platform experience. With TV becoming a leading screen for YouTube viewers worldwide, these improvements help creators ensure their content looks stunning across devices.
