Samsung Galaxy S27 Patent Leak Reveals Possible New Horizontal Camera Bar

Samsung could be planning a noticeable camera design change for the upcoming Galaxy S27 series. Fresh design images spotted in the WIPO Global Design Database appear to show a Galaxy S-series phone with three rear cameras placed side by side inside a single horizontal camera bar.

The design looks quite different from Samsung’s current camera layout and is somewhat similar to the camera bar used on Google’s Pixel lineup. It also brings back memories of the older Galaxy S10, which featured a more integrated rear camera module.

One of the patent drawings shows the camera section sitting almost flush with the rear panel. However, this does not necessarily mean the final Galaxy S27 will have an almost completely flat camera setup.

Patent drawings usually focus on the overall design rather than exact dimensions. Because of that, the camera bump shown in the filing may not represent the actual thickness of the final phone.

Still, a smaller camera bump would be an interesting change. It could give the Galaxy S27 a cleaner look while also making it easier to use with magnetic cases and accessories.

Aside from the camera layout, the design looks familiar. The phone appears to have rounded corners, flat sides and the overall shape we have come to expect from Samsung’s Galaxy S series.

This suggests Samsung may not be planning a complete redesign. Instead, the company could simply be reworking how the rear cameras are integrated into the body.

The patent also lines up with earlier rumors that Samsung is considering a more unified camera module for the Galaxy S27 series. The company could move away from the individual floating camera rings that have been used on recent Galaxy S models.

There could also be a practical reason behind the change. Earlier reports have suggested that Samsung is exploring a revised camera layout that could help create more space for magnetic wireless charging components.

However, the exact reason behind the new design is still unknown. The WIPO filing itself does not confirm the hardware or explain why Samsung is considering this layout.

It is also important to remember that a patent does not guarantee a commercial launch. Smartphone companies regularly file multiple designs during development, and some concepts never make it to the market.

The Samsung Galaxy S27 series is expected to launch in early 2027, giving Samsung plenty of time to modify or even abandon this design.

If the horizontal camera bar makes it to the final Galaxy S27, it could become one of the more noticeable design changes Samsung has made to its flagship lineup in years.

It would not completely change the Galaxy S design language, but the new camera treatment could make the Galaxy S27 instantly recognizable next to the current generation.

For now, this patent should be treated as an early look at one possible design rather than confirmation of the final Galaxy S27.
