Apple has rolled out the iOS 26.4 and iPadOS 26.4 Developer Preview Beta (build 23E5207q), arriving just under two weeks after the previous release. The update introduces a wide range of features focused on security, media experiences, personalization, and ecosystem improvements, reinforcing Apple’s push toward a more secure and intelligent user experience.

One of the most significant additions is end-to-end encryption for RCS messages. Apple is collaborating with the GSM Association to bring full encryption to cross-platform messaging, aiming to secure conversations between iPhone and Android users. While iMessage has long supported encryption, this step moves standard messaging closer to the same privacy standard.

Security receives further attention as Stolen Device Protection is now enabled by default. When an iPhone is away from familiar locations such as home or workplace, sensitive actions require additional authentication. This helps prevent unauthorized account changes if a device is stolen along with its passcode.

Apple Music gains a creative boost with the new Playlist Playground feature. Users can generate playlists using text prompts such as moods, activities, or themes. The tool automatically creates a 25-song playlist complete with a custom title, and users can refine results with additional prompts, artwork choices, and descriptions. Apple Music also introduces a Concerts Near You section to help users discover nearby live shows and tour dates.

The Apple Podcasts app now supports video podcasts using HTTP Live Streaming technology. Listeners can switch seamlessly between audio and video, download episodes for offline viewing, and explore recommendations through existing discovery tools. This update provides creators with new monetization opportunities while enhancing viewer engagement.
Apple is also refining system design with a unified Apple Account Center that consolidates profile settings across the App Store, Apple Music, and other services. The App Store itself now combines app and purchase history, adds a dedicated updates section, and introduces a simplified search experience.
New personalization features include an Ambient Music widget for the Home and Lock Screen, offering built-in soundscapes for relaxation, productivity, or sleep. Wallpaper categories such as Weather, Astronomy, Emojis, and Colors have been refreshed, and similar design improvements extend to Apple Watch face galleries.

Productivity tools receive attention as well. The Reminders app introduces an Urgent category that triggers alarm-style alerts for critical tasks. Freeform Creator Studio expands with premium content resources and AI-powered image creation tools for subscribers, along with a redesigned app icon.
Additional improvements include new animations in the Messages app, updated iCloud web access settings with a new Allow Search toggle, and notification forwarding to third-party wearables in the EU. Proximity Pairing also arrives in European markets, allowing compatible accessories to connect simply by bringing them near an iPhone or iPad.
Although no new emojis are included in this beta, code hints at upcoming additions such as a walrus, ballerina, apple core, treasure chest, and more in future releases.
The iOS 26.4 beta highlights Apple’s continued focus on privacy, seamless cross-platform communication, and richer media experiences. As testing progresses, more refinements are expected before the public rollout.
