Samsung could be making a significant change to its flagship camera strategy. According to a new report GalaxyClub, the upcoming Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ are expected to feature a 50MP Sony camera sensor instead of Samsung’s own ISOCELL sensor.
If the leak proves accurate, it would mark the first time in several years that Samsung has used a Sony sensor as the primary camera in its standard Galaxy S flagship models.

The current Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26+ use Samsung’s 50MP ISOCELL S5KGNG sensor with an f/1.4 aperture. However, the latest report claims Samsung is switching to a Sony sensor for the Galaxy S27 series.
Samsung last used a Sony sensor in its Galaxy S lineup with the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20+, which featured the 12MP Sony IMX555 sensor. Since then, the company has largely relied on its in-house ISOCELL sensors for flagship smartphones.
The leak also suggests that the Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ will continue using a 12MP ultra-wide camera with an f/2.2 aperture. Meanwhile, the higher-end Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra are expected to receive an upgraded 50MP ultra-wide sensor.
Final Thoughts
While the resolution remains unchanged at 50MP, the switch to a Sony sensor could bring improvements in image quality, low-light performance, and autofocus. As always, these details are based on early leaks, and Samsung has yet to officially confirm the Galaxy S27 lineup.
