OpenAI has officially announced that ChatGPT Go, the lightweight version of ChatGPT, will now be available free of cost for all Indian users for an entire 12 months. New users can opt for the 12-month free plan directly while signing up and start using the service immediately without any charges.
Initially, there was some confusion among existing paid subscribers, as OpenAI’s announcement did not clarify whether the offer extended to them. However, several users later confirmed receiving an official email from OpenAI stating that all active ChatGPT Go subscribers will also receive the same 12-month free extension automatically.

The email from OpenAI reportedly stated that the billing date for existing users will be moved back by 12 months. This means they will continue to enjoy premium access features like advanced model usage, file uploads, and image generation without needing to take any action on their accounts.
With this update, both new and existing ChatGPT Go users in India can access premium features for free. OpenAI has not mentioned an end date for the offer, so interested users are encouraged to claim the promotion while it remains active.
To claim the free ChatGPT Go plan, new users can follow a simple process:
- Sign up using an email address or phone number.
- After signing up, a “What’s on the agenda?” screen will appear with an “Upgrade for free” banner at the top.
- Click on “Upgrade for free” and choose to switch to ChatGPT Go.
- Enter debit or credit card details for verification. The account will not be charged during the 12-month free period.
This move marks a significant step by OpenAI to expand its user base and encourage AI adoption in India, one of the fastest-growing markets for AI-driven tools. By offering ChatGPT Go at no cost for a year, OpenAI is making conversational AI more accessible to students, professionals, and small businesses across the country.
