John Ternus Joins X as Apple CEO With a Simple “hello” on Day One

Apple’s new CEO John Ternus has officially joined X, and he made his social media debut in the simplest way possible: “hello.”

The new account, @johnternus, went live on September 1, 2026, the same day Ternus officially took over as Apple CEO from Tim Cook. His profile is extremely simple, carrying the Apple logo and identifying him as Apple’s CEO.

A very Apple-style first post

Ternus’ first post contains just one word: “hello.” That tiny message quickly attracted huge attention from Apple fans and the technology community, turning his first-ever public X post into an instant viral moment.

The timing makes it even more interesting. Ternus had no public social media presence before this, and his arrival on X comes exactly as he begins his first day as Apple’s chief executive.

From Apple’s hardware chief to CEO

Ternus has spent around 25 years at Apple. He joined the company in 2001 and eventually became senior vice president of Hardware Engineering in 2021. His teams have worked across major Apple products, including the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, AirPods and Apple Vision Pro.

Apple officially announced in April that Ternus would succeed Tim Cook as CEO on September 1, 2026. Cook has now moved into the role of executive chairman, remaining involved with the company while Ternus takes charge of day-to-day leadership.

Ternus therefore enters the role with deep knowledge of Apple’s products and engineering teams, making his appointment an important shift for the company as it enters its next chapter.

What will John Ternus post next?

That is the interesting part. Ternus has been a relatively private Apple executive compared with Tim Cook, who has maintained a large presence on X for years.
