Google has officially introduced the Fitbit Edge, a new fitness tracker designed for people who want more than a basic fitness band but do not need a full smartwatch. It combines a colour display, health monitoring features and a replaceable battery in a compact design.

The new tracker sits between the screenless Fitbit Air and the more advanced Pixel Watch 5. It is aimed at users who want to check their fitness information, receive notifications and monitor their health without wearing a feature-packed smartwatch all day.
The Fitbit Edge is priced at $179.99 in the US. Google is also offering a Stephen Curry edition for $219.99. Both prices include three months of Google Health Premium with the purchase.
Fitbit Edge Specifications and Features
The Fitbit Edge features an OLED touchscreen that is 46% larger than the display on the Fitbit Charge 6. It also has a physical side button and a compact body measuring approximately 11.5mm thick.
One of its biggest highlights is the replaceable battery. Google rates the tracker for up to seven days of use on a charge, although enabling the always-on display reduces the estimated battery life to around two days.
The device also supports fast charging. According to The Verge, five minutes of charging can provide approximately one day of use, while a complete charge takes around 90 minutes.
For health tracking, the Fitbit Edge includes an ECG sensor for detecting signs of atrial fibrillation, along with heart rate, blood oxygen and skin temperature sensors. It also tracks movement, sleep and everyday activity.
The tracker has IP68 protection against dust and water and a 5ATM water-resistance rating, making it suitable for swimming under supported conditions.
Improved GPS and Automatic Activity Tracking
Google has improved the tracker’s GPS performance, claiming up to 40% better accuracy than the Fitbit Charge 6. It also supports turn-by-turn directions, making it more useful for outdoor workouts and navigation.
Automatic workout detection has received an upgrade as well. Google says the new system is twice as accurate and supports more than 100 activities.
The tracker can use location information and established routines to help identify activities. For example, it may recognise a familiar workout based on where you exercise or when you regularly perform it.
The Fitbit Edge runs a redesigned version of Fitbit OS rather than Wear OS. It supports notifications, timers, alarms, music controls and selected connected features, including heart rate broadcasting to compatible gym equipment.
However, the device does not include a microphone, speaker or NFC chip. You can see incoming call information, but you cannot answer calls directly from your wrist. Contactless payments are also unavailable.
These omissions are worth considering because the Fitbit Edge costs more than the Fitbit Charge 6 did at launch. Buyers will need to decide whether its improved tracking, display and replaceable battery are worth the trade-offs.
Price and India Availability
The standard Fitbit Edge costs $179.99 in the US, while the Stephen Curry edition is priced at $219.99. Google has not confirmed an official India launch date or Indian pricing as of October 12, 2026.

Passionategeekz Take
The Fitbit Edge fills an interesting gap between a basic fitness band and a full smartwatch. Its replaceable battery, improved GPS and extensive health tracking could appeal to users who want a device they can wear throughout the day without charging it every night.
However, the $179.99 price makes the missing NFC payments, microphone and speaker harder to ignore. Buyers who mainly want fitness tracking may appreciate the simpler experience, while those who want calls and smartwatch apps may prefer a more capable device.
The biggest question for Indian buyers is availability. Until Google confirms local pricing and a launch date, the Fitbit Edge remains an interesting new wearable to watch rather than an officially available purchase option in India.
