Renault India has officially confirmed the much-anticipated return of the Duster, announcing its launch date via its X handle. The next-generation Renault Duster will make its debut in India on January 26, 2026, marking the brand’s comeback to the compact SUV category nearly four years after the previous model was discontinued.
The announcement teaser proudly carries the tagline “The Icon is Back”, signaling Renault’s renewed confidence in bringing one of its most successful SUVs back to the market. Although the brand has not revealed full specifications yet, a hint dropped in the comments suggests that diesel powertrain options may return alongside petrol variants — a move that could attract enthusiasts still craving diesel SUVs in the segment.
The upcoming Duster will be the first product to launch in India under Renault’s International Game Plan 2027 strategy and aligns with the recently introduced ‘renault.rethink’ product philosophy. Earlier this year, Renault also showcased facelifts of the Triber and Kiger as part of the same plan, signaling a refreshed product roadmap for the country.
Engine details remain unofficial, but industry reports strongly expect the new Duster to feature the proven 1.3-litre HR13 turbo-petrol engine producing around 156hp, paired with manual and CVT gearbox options. Additionally, entry-level variants could use a refined version of the 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine seen in the Kiger, offering improved performance.
The potential comeback of a diesel engine option could set the Duster apart in a market where most compact SUVs have shifted to petrol-only powertrains. With its rugged legacy, off-road capability, and updated design expected, the new Duster aims to reclaim its stronghold in the SUV space.
When launched, it will compete head-to-head with popular models such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Toyota Hyryder, Maruti Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, Tata Sierra, and the upcoming Maruti Victori.
More information including design details, interior upgrades, and complete engine lineup is expected closer to the official launch timeline. As the compact SUV battle heats up, Renault appears ready to make a bold comeback in 2026.
