Samsung may be preparing to rebrand its upcoming foldable phone by dropping the long-used “Fan Edition” label and adopting a new name—Z Flip Xe. While this shift hasn’t been officially confirmed, sources suggest that the change could signal a broader strategy to reposition the product line and distance it from the budget-friendly image often associated with the FE tag.
The decision has sparked speculation among industry watchers. Some believe Samsung wants to reinforce the premium status of its foldable devices by avoiding labels that could imply lower-tier performance or pricing. Others argue that the move may be part of a larger branding strategy to introduce fresh identities and create more distinctive product segments within its foldable lineup.
Based on early information, the device will likely be powered by the Exynos 2400e processor and feature a dual rear camera setup with two 12MP sensors—main and ultra-wide—while a 10MP front camera handles selfies. This mirrors the camera configuration of the Z Flip 5 but with a potential performance boost. The Z Flip Xe is also expected to carry over the 6.7-inch AMOLED main display and 3.4-inch cover screen from the Z Flip 6, though differences in materials and hinge design may help set it apart.
The “Fan Edition” name has historically been tied to affordable flagship models, making it popular among budget-conscious users. By introducing the “Xe” suffix, Samsung could be signaling a shift toward customization or even an experimental platform for new features. The phone was briefly listed in the GSMA database under the Z Flip Xe name before being reverted to FE, adding to the confusion but also suggesting that the name change is under consideration.
If confirmed, the rebranding could mark a turning point in Samsung’s foldable strategy, combining refined hardware with a new identity to appeal to a broader—and potentially more premium—audience.
