[CNMO Technology News]Passionategeekz learned from foreign media that Samsung recently announced that its first smartphone chip, Exynos 2500, based on 3nm process, will cooperate with Skylo Technologies to support the implementation of emergency communication functions through low-orbit satellites. The chip is expected to be launched on devices such as the Z Flip 7, marking an important step in the field of satellite communications technology.

Skylo Technologies said the Exynos 2500 is equipped with an Exynos 5400 5G modem, with NB-IoT NTN (non-terrestrial network) connection capability, and can work in conjunction with low-orbit satellites. This technology will enable devices to remain connected in remote areas that are not covered by traditional cellular networks, providing critical communication support for emergencies. Skylo also cooperates with Samsung’s subsidiary Harman Automotive to integrate the two-way emergency message function into the HARMAN Ready Connect vehicle system to realize real-time updates and alert sending when the vehicle is not covered by network.

Hui Won Je, vice president of Samsung Electronics Modem development team, pointed out that the cooperation is based on the 3GPP NTN standard. Through the Exynos 2500 chip and the Exynos 5400 modem, mainstream devices around the world will have the capability of satellite connectivity without dead angles for the first time, opening a new era of “ubiquitous connection”. Foreign media said that although the Exynos 2500 has satellite communication functions, Samsung may not fully apply it due to commercial considerations.

It is worth noting that the Exynos 2500 is Samsung’s first 3nm mobile phone chip. It was originally planned to be released simultaneously with the S25 series, but because the Samsung foundry failed to meet the expected yield, all S25 series devices this year use the Snapdragon 8 Elite For Galaxy mobile platform. Samsung has improved its production process at present. The Exynos 2500 will be equipped with the Z Flip 7 first, while the Z Flip 7 FE will use the Exynos 2400 chip, and the Z Fold 7 will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite For Galaxy.
