RugOne has launched a smartphone that takes a very different approach to mobile photography. The new RugOne Xsnap 7 Pro has been announced at IFA 2026 with a detachable action camera built directly into the rear of the rugged phone.
The small camera module can be removed from the handset and used on its own. This gives users a compact camera for outdoor activities while the main smartphone continues to work as a regular phone.
Detachable action camera is the main highlight
The Xsnap 7 Pro’s action camera weighs only 39 grams and attaches magnetically to the back of the phone. When it is docked, the smartphone can recharge the camera module.
The camera can record video at up to 2.7K resolution at 30 frames per second and comes with 64GB of built-in storage. RugOne says it can record for around 40 minutes on a charge and can operate underwater to a depth of 5 metres without an external case.
The footage can be transferred wirelessly to the smartphone using the Xsnap Go app, with a connection range of up to 50 metres. This could make the camera useful for cycling, hiking, travel and other situations where carrying a full-sized action camera may not be convenient.
Powerful hardware and a massive battery
The main phone comes with a 6.67-inch 1.5K AMOLED display supporting a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 1,700 nits of peak brightness. It is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 8400 chipset.
Battery life is another major part of the phone. The Xsnap 7 Pro packs a huge 9,000mAh battery with support for 45W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
The phone also has its own camera system. It includes a 50MP primary camera with optical image stabilisation and a 64MP infrared night-vision camera with dual IR LEDs. This allows the phone to capture images and video even in very dark conditions.
Built for extreme conditions
As a rugged smartphone, the Xsnap 7 Pro is designed to handle much more than a typical flagship phone. It carries IP68 and IP69K protection and is rated to survive drops from up to 1.5 metres onto concrete.
The combination of a rugged body, large battery, night vision and detachable action camera makes the phone particularly interesting for outdoor users. It is not simply another Android phone with a large battery; RugOne is trying to build an entire adventure-focused camera setup into the handset.
The RugOne Xsnap 7 Pro is scheduled to launch through Kickstarter on September 7, 2026. Early-bird pledges are listed at €799, while the planned global retail price is $999.
With a detachable action camera, 9,000mAh battery and rugged construction, the Xsnap 7 Pro is one of the more unusual smartphones shown at IFA 2026. It may not be aimed at mainstream flagship buyers, but for adventure users and gadget fans, the idea of carrying a phone that can transform into an action-camera setup is certainly worth watching.
