Passionategeekz On June 24, the new Toyota Shiji has been released. The new car has not changed in appearance and interior design, but new dimmable private windows have been added, allowing passengers to switch freely between three modes: transparent, translucent and opaque according to their needs, providing a higher level of privacy protection for rear passengers, while not affecting the entry of soft natural light in the car. In opaque mode, the atmosphere inside the car creates a quiet feeling similar to a Japanese-style room.
Toyota achieves this unique dimmable window function by adding special films to the laminated glass on both sides of the vehicle. However, the car’s panoramic sunroof does not adopt the same dimmable design, but continues to use traditional electric sunshades.
The new Shiji is still positioned as the flagship model of the Toyota brand, focusing on the luxury market, and its design focuses on the comfort and convenience of the rear cockpit. The car is equipped with electric telescopic pedals, wide-open rear doors, auxiliary handles, ambient lights, retractable small table boards, antibacterial surfaces, cloak hooks, and even shoehorn racks. The rear seats have retractable backrests and foot pedals, which can be completely flat, allowing passengers to rest during meeting breaks. In addition, rear passengers are equipped with independent control panels and entertainment systems, including personal displays, and connected to the 18-speaker premium audio system, providing passengers with the ultimate audio-visual experience.
In terms of power system, the new SJ is equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 plug-in hybrid system, with a combined power of 412 horsepower (303 kilowatts). The power is transmitted to four wheels through the E-Four Advanced four-wheel drive system. The car’s battery can support pure electric range of 69 kilometers, and the comprehensive fuel consumption under WLTC operating conditions is 14.2 liters/100 kilometers.
The starting price of the new Shiji has increased by 2 million yen due to the newly added dimmable window function (Passionategeekz Note: the current exchange rate is approximately RMB 97,814), reaching 27 million yen (the current exchange rate is approximately RMB 1.32 million). The new model will be available in limited quantities and will only be accepted at some Japanese dealers, and will be mainly aimed at the owners of existing century sedans.
In addition, Toyota has officially confirmed that it will launch the GR SUV model with performance upgrades by the Gazoo Racing department.
