Volkswagen has reached a major milestone in its electric transformation journey. The one millionth electric vehicle has officially rolled off the production line at its Zwickau plant, marking a pivotal moment for the site and the brand. The milestone car? An ID.3 GTX Performance in Kings Red Metallic, soon to be delivered to a customer in Bavaria.
Once a hub for combustion engines, Zwickau became VW’s first plant to fully switch to 100% electric vehicle production—a transformation that began in 2019 with the launch of the ID.3. Since then, the site has produced six electric models for three Volkswagen Group brands and has delivered over 2.3 million MEB vehicles globally.
Volkswagen executives praised the workforce for their dedication through challenging years, while also hinting at Zwickau’s future role in the circular economy. As the plant prepares to shift some models to other facilities in 2026, its legacy as a pioneer in EV manufacturing remains firm.
