Passionategeekz On June 22, Reddit user @deus03690 posted a post saying that he was very depressed. The countless “precious photos and work materials” accumulated over the past 30 years were completely inaccessible because the OneDrive account was frozen by Microsoft without warning and no reason.
He allegedly submitted 18 complaints as required, but all he received was automatic reply from the system. “There is no manual customer service, no substantial progress, only automatic reply and endless silence.”
According to his description, due to space and fund restrictions when he moved, he chose to migrate all the data from his old hard drive to the newly purchased OneDrive and plan to transfer it to the new hard drive in the future, but his account was suddenly frozen, resulting in all data being inaccessible. Microsoft did not provide any violation warnings or reasons for banning during this period. He called it a “Kafka-style corporate negligence black hole.”
With a large amount of precious data in the account, he said he had to consider restoring the account through legal action, but the process could take a long time and no one can guarantee that Microsoft will be able to keep the data until the day the lawsuit ends.
Passionategeekz inquiry found that Microsoft does have instructions on OneDrive terms of use, such as the account may be deleted if it is not logged in for more than 365 days, but the netizen’s case obviously does not meet this situation.
Netizens speculated that it may be that a large amount of data upload accidentally triggers system warnings (such as copyright protection mechanism), but Microsoft has not responded to the specific reasons so far. Experts recommend that users follow the 3-2-1 backup principle (i.e. 3 copies, 2 media, 1 off-site storage).
