On June 22, Beijing time, Trump Group launched its own Trump Mobile and Turkish Golden Smartphonethe former is actually a virtual network operator, providing mobile phone services by renting wireless networks from the three major American operators AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile.
So, what about Trump Mobile service? Shira Ovide, editor of the Washington Post, conducted actual tests.
The package is expensive
Before testing the wireless service, Ovid was unable to recommend Trump Mobile, and her initial experience was not good.
The first thing that surprised her was the price. Trump Mobile promotes monthly package price for $47.45, but when she enters her personal information and credit card information,Another “package telecommunications tax” appears”(plan telecom tax), the amount is US$17.25 per month. By this calculation, the total package fee is US$64.70.
This is a considerable additional fee, and it is not clear whether these are all taxes imposed by the government, or whether some other fees are “packaged” into taxes (which is a common method for some telecom companies).
When Ovid asked the Trump Mobile customer service representative about the additional fee, the other party read the content of the Trump Mobile Terms of Service, which read: “The user is responsible for paying the applicable telecommunications taxes stipulated by each government agency.” In terms of“fees” (fees) is spelled into “fess”,And this is not the only word that is misspelled.
Cannot be activated
Moreover, Ovid’s phone seems to be unable to activate Trump Mobile’s service at all.
A video on Trump Mobile customer support website says new users should scan QR codes or follow instructions to start using wireless services on existing smartphones. But Ovid did not receive the QR code or activation instructions for the mobile service, and her credit card was immediately deducted.
Ovid contacted a friendly and helpful customer service representative on Monday and then emailed the customer service team. They told Ovid that if she didn’t select the “Activate Now” option (she believed she chose it), it might take several hours or a day to receive the activation instructions.
By Tuesday morning, Ovid did see a QR code and the “Activate Now” button in the Trump Mobile online customer account. However, when she clicked that button, the Trump Mobile service activation options page that jumped to read “It’s coming soon!”
Mobile operators U.S. Mobile CEO Ahmed Khattak said he was not sure Trump Mobile has the “operating strength” needed to successfully deliver the wireless services it promised. However, Katak also said that he welcomes more highly-known alternative services to challenge the three wireless operators, AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon, to promote American users to get rid of their dependence on the “wireless three giants”. “The more, the better,” he said.
As of press time, Trump Mobile’s media representatives did not immediately respond to Ovid’s questions.
