Passionategeekz June 19th news: Tesla unmanned taxis (Robotaxi) has become increasingly common on public roads in Austin, Texas. As the company’s target launch date approaches, another test vehicle is discovered.
Just over a week ago, the first driverless Tesla unmanned taxi was witnessed by the public. The vehicle is an upgraded version of the Tesla Model Y, which will also be the model used for the first public deployment of the Tesla unmanned taxi platform.
Passionategeekz has noticed that in the past week, Tesla’s unmanned taxis have become increasingly frequent. Austin residents are looking for unique stickers that Tesla puts on doors to identify these driverless vehicles (after all, Tesla’s unmanned taxis aren’t as easy to recognize than the Waymo driverless vehicles with lidar units on the roof).
Just today, just two days left before CEO Elon Musk’s June 22 launch date was released, and another sighting of an unmanned taxi was shared on social media. It can be clearly seen from the photos that there is no one in the driver’s seat of the car. Tesla’s test car is equipped with a white interior, which can be easily judged that there is no human driver in the car to control the vehicle.
Whether Tesla can launch unmanned taxi services on June 22 as scheduled is still unknown.
Tesla plans to launch an unmanned taxi platform in Austin first, but has already initiated relevant regulatory procedures in other regions, especially California.
In addition, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is also helping companies developing driverless vehicles, simplifying the process by giving automakers exemptions. This will greatly increase efficiency and benefit Tesla and other car companies with similar plans.
