Passionategeekz On June 25, a cargo ship called the Morning Midas sank in the North Pacific. The ship had been responsible for delivering new vehicles to Mexico. A few weeks ago, the crew lost power because they were unable to extinguish the fire on the ship, causing the ship to lose power, the crew abandoned the ship and escaped, and the freighter eventually sank.

According to a statement from the London-based Zodiac Maritime, the Morning Light Midas sank in international waters near the Aleutian Islands of Alaska on Monday.

“No obvious pollution has been found at this time,” said Cameron Snell, a spokesman for the U.S. Coast Guard in Alaska. He also mentioned: “We have ships on site and are ready to deal with possible pollution.”

According to the statement, the freighter sank in a water area about 770 kilometers from land and a depth of about 5,000 meters. The damage caused to the freighter by the fire, coupled with the infiltration of bad weather and seawater, eventually led to the sunk of the freighter.

The Morning Midas is loaded with about 3,000 new vehicles that were originally planned to be shipped to a major Pacific port in Mexico. It is not yet known whether any vehicles were unloaded before the freighter sank.

A few days after the fire, a salvage boat arrived at the scene. Two tugboats carrying anti-pollution equipment will remain on site to monitor possible signs of pollution or debris. The crew of both ships was not injured when the Morning Light Midas sank.

Zodiac Maritime also said they will send another professional anti-pollution emergency ship to the wreck site as an additional precaution.

The U.S. Coast Guard said they received a fire distress alert from the Morning Light Middles, which was located about 490 kilometers southwest of Adak Island, Alaska. There were 22 crew members on the ship, all of whom were evacuated to the lifeboat and rescued by a nearby merchant ship, without any injuries.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard and Zodiac Maritime, there was initially a lot of smoke coming out from the back of the deck loaded with electric cars. There are about 70 pure electric vehicles and 680 hybrid vehicles on board.

According to Passionategeekz, Adak Island is about 1,930 kilometers away from Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city. The 183-meter-long cargo ship, Morning Light Midas, was built in 2006 and flew the Liberian flag. According to industry website marinetraffic.com Information on the freighter departed from Yantai, China on May 26 to Mexico.

In 2023, a cargo ship carrying 3,000 vehicles (including nearly 500 electric vehicles) broke out on a fire on its way from Germany to Singapore, killing one person and injuring several people, and the fire continued to burn for a week. Eventually, the cargo ship was towed to Dutch port for salvage.
