Passionategeekz According to news on June 18, Tesla’s current inventory backlog in the United States is so severe that it has to occupy the parking lot outside its delivery center as a “replacement parking lot.” Over the past few weeks, more and more reports have pointed to Tesla’s vehicles appearing in parking lots that are not related to retail, delivery or service locations.
In Chesterfield, near St. Louis, Missouri, Tesla rented parking lots at partially demolished shopping malls to store hundreds of unsold cars. The vehicles were supposed to be stored in a delivery center three miles away from the parking lot, but as the delivery center could no longer accommodate more vehicles, it had to use this “spill over parking lot”. This year, Tesla has used more “overflow parking lots” due to demand issues.
Earlier this month, another Tesla open-air parking lot was found in Farmington Hills, Michigan, which is quite controversial. It is reported that the site is not planned for vehicle storage, and the local government has notified Tesla. Many of the vehicles in this parking lot are Tesla’s Cybertruck, which is currently in poor sales. Previous reports said that Cybertruck’s sales fell by half from the same period last year, and despite Tesla’s larger discounts, it still had to slow down production to avoid further increase in stocks. About 100 Cybertrucks were found in the parking lot in Farmington Hills.
Similar Tesla “spills out of parking lots” have been found in Nevada, Florida and Ohio in the past few months.
According to Passionategeekz, Tesla’s inventory in the United States is difficult to accurately track. Some websites track Tesla’s vehicle listing information, but Tesla sometimes publishes single listing information for multiple cars with the same configuration. Despite this, the latest data shows that Tesla’s inventory has increased in the past week, especially the number of Model 3 listed has risen sharply. Tesla’s overall inventory is higher than the same period last quarter.
Cybertruck’s inventory has dropped slightly due to Tesla’s production cuts, but there are still more than 3,000 unsold Cybertrucks.
