Samsung Electronics is accelerating its long-term semiconductor roadmap with unprecedented capital commitments. The South Korean technology conglomerate has formally showcased the detailed structural blueprints for its upcoming mega-scale fabrication hub in the Yongin National Industrial Complex, backing the development with an investment exceeding 360 trillion won, or roughly 260 billion dollars.

Six Advanced Fabrication Facilities on Accelerated Timelines
The comprehensive industrial blueprint outlines the construction of six separate semiconductor fabrication plants designed to manufacture next-generation logic chips, mobile application processors, and specialized memory products. Crucially, Samsung has moved up its operational milestones by an entire year.
Under the revised schedule presented during local civic technology forums, preliminary ground-breaking operations will commence in 2028, with the first production facility scheduled to begin commercial wafer output in October 2029. The revised date represents a significant acceleration compared to the previously targeted late-2030 launch window.
Strategic Posturing in the Sub-Two-Nanometer AI Era
The massive infrastructure push comes at a critical juncture for the global technology ecosystem. Surging commercial requirements for artificial intelligence processors, automotive computing units, and dense mobile silicon have created severe demand across advanced foundry nodes. Bringing additional cleanroom volume online ahead of schedule allows Samsung Foundry to capture vital tier-one contracts from international chip designers.
The facility is also expected to house mass fabrication lines for future Exynos smartphone silicon and customized AI accelerators, ensuring Samsung maintains deep vertical integration between its component manufacturing divisions and consumer Galaxy mobile portfolios.
Domestic Infrastructure and Ecosystem Integration
Samsung highlighted the extensive civil and power infrastructure supporting the Yongin cluster, which includes dedicated clean-water recycling networks, high-voltage substations, and collaborative vendor hubs for regional suppliers. The site will serve as the anchor for South Korea’s broader national semiconductor corridor well into the next decade.
