Passionategeekz June 20th news, Reuters reported today that Nvidia is in talks about the deployment of humanoid robots at a new Foxconn Houston factory (which mainly produces Nvidia AI servers). Both Nvidia and Foxconn declined to comment.
People familiar with the matter said that if the project is successfully implemented, it will be the first time that Nvidia products have been manufactured with humanoid robots, and it is also Foxconn’s first AI server factory to apply such robots on the production line, marking an important milestone in the application of humanoid robots.
Foxconn is jointly developing self-developed humanoid robots with NVIDIA and has tested products from Chinese manufacturers UBL. The type of humanoid robot will be used in the Houston factory, its appearance design and the number of initial deployments are not yet clear, people familiar with the matter said.
Sources said the two companies aim to enable humanoid robots to be put into operation in the first quarter of next year, when Foxconn’s new factory in Houston will start producing AI servers for Nvidia GB300. Passionategeekz noticed that Foxconn demonstrated the process of robots performing items pick-up, cable plug-up and assembly in May.
A person familiar with the matter pointed out that the Houston factory has become an ideal place to deploy humanoid robots because of its new properties and more abundant space than existing AI server manufacturing bases.
Leo Guo, general manager of the Industrial Foxconn Robot Division, which is responsible for the group’s AI server business, said last month that Foxconn plans to display two self-developed humanoid robots at the November Annual Science and Technology Conference. He revealed that one of them has legs and the other uses a wheeled autonomous mobile robot (AMR) base—the latter cost less than the leg version, but no details were disclosed.
For Nvidia, the application of humanoid robots in AI server manufacturing is its further deepening of this technology. The company has provided a development platform for humanoid robot manufacturers. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang predicted in March this year that the widespread popularity of such robots in manufacturing facilities will be achieved within five years, so Nvidia and Foxconn will take the lead in completing their applications and will provide an example for the industry.
