Apple is taking another major step in its India manufacturing strategy. The company has reportedly started shipping India-made iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max units to global markets ahead of their September 18 sales launch.
This is especially important because the Pro models are reportedly being manufactured in India from the beginning of the product cycle. Earlier, Apple’s India production often focused on standard iPhone models first, with Pro production following later.
India becomes more important to Apple’s iPhone supply chain
Apple’s manufacturing partners, including Foxconn and Tata Electronics, are reportedly working at high capacity to prepare enough iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max units for launch demand.
The India-made phones are not only being prepared for local buyers. Reports say Apple is using chartered flights to move the devices from India to other markets, including the United States.
That makes the iPhone 18 Pro an important milestone for India’s role in Apple’s global supply chain. It also shows how quickly Apple’s manufacturing operations in the country have expanded.
iPhone 18 Pro sales begin September 18
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are scheduled to go on sale on September 18. Apple is preparing shipments before launch day so customers in major markets can receive the new phones without waiting for a later production cycle.
Early demand also appears strong. A separate report from Taiwan says pre-orders for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are running up to 20 percent higher than last year, despite Apple’s new foldable iPhone Duo entering the premium market.
For India, the bigger story is not only the new iPhone itself. Apple’s decision to manufacture Pro models locally from day one could make India an increasingly important part of the company’s worldwide iPhone production strategy.
As Apple continues expanding local manufacturing, future iPhone launches could see even more models produced in India for both Indian customers and international markets.
