However, compared with leading companies in the industry, there is a gap in R&D capital investment. In 2024, the total R&D expenses of LePan Automobile were only 2.9 billion yuan, while NIO was 13.04 billion yuan and Xiaopeng was 6.46 billion yuan. Even so, Leapmotor has formed many R&D teams, covering multiple professional fields, providing strong support for technological innovation, and exploring technological breakthrough paths under limited resources.

According to Passionategeekz, Leapmotor’s annual delivery volume reached 292,724 units in 2024, ranking third among the global new car-making forces, achieving a year-on-year growth of 103.8%. In addition, as of May, Leapmotor’s cumulative export sales in 2025 have been the champion of new forces, with a total export sales of 17,200 units. On January 13, Leapmotor announced that it would turn positive in the fourth quarter of 2024, achieving the goal of single-quarter profit one year ahead of schedule, which marks Leapmotor becoming the second new profitable brand.

Its gross profit margin in 2024 was only 8.38%, which is still insufficient compared with BYD’s gross profit margin of over 20% and Tesla’s over 15%.
