Honor is gearing up for the launch of its highly anticipated Magic 8 series, expected to debut in October 2025. In the lead-up to the announcement, renowned tipster Digital Chat Station has shared key details about what appears to be the Honor Magic 8 Pro — and the upgrades look substantial.
According to the leak, the Honor Magic 8 Pro will be powered by the brand-new Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 (SM8850) chipset, succeeding the Snapdragon 8 Elite (SM8750) that powered last year’s Magic 7 and Magic 7 Pro. The reference to the SM8850, coupled with the tipster’s usual Honor emoji hint, suggests a significant performance jump for the upcoming flagship.
One of the standout upgrades lies in the camera department. The Magic 8 Pro is rumored to feature a cutting-edge OmniVision OV50Q sensor as its primary camera. This 50-megapixel sensor boasts a large 1/1.3-inch sensor size and supports LOFIC (Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor) technology. LOFIC is designed to enhance focus speed, optimize HDR capabilities, enable smoother frame transitions, and facilitate super frame synthesis — all while reducing power consumption for more efficient imaging performance.
The Honor Magic 8 Pro is also tipped to include:
- A 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens, providing expansive shooting options.
- A 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera, likely delivering stunning zoom capabilities.
For comparison, the previous Magic 7 Pro was equipped with an OmniVision OVH9000 50-megapixel main sensor, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a Samsung HP3 200-megapixel periscope sensor. The switch to the OV50Q for the main camera suggests Honor is aiming for significant improvements in both photo quality and energy efficiency.
With the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 under the hood and a highly capable camera system, the Honor Magic 8 Pro is shaping up to be a serious contender in the ultra-premium smartphone category this fall. Stay tuned for the official launch in October!
