Passionategeekz On June 21, the latest data released by the International Federation of Robots (IFR) this week showed that the installed capacity of robots in the European automobile manufacturing industry reached 23,000 in 2024, exceeding 19,200 in North America.
IFR Chairman Takayuki Ito pointed out: “The European automotive industry is the core area of robotics applications, and automakers contribute about one-third of the annual installed capacity of local manufacturing. In terms of automation, the total installed capacity of 23,000 units in the European automotive sector has exceeded the 19,200 units in the same period in North America.”
From a global perspective, the European automobile manufacturing industry has a high degree of automation. According to reports, six European countries are ranked among the top ten countries in the automotive industry with robot density, with Switzerland ranking first (3,876 robots per 10,000 workers), and also include:
-
Slovenia (1,762)
-
Germany (1,492 units)
-
Austria (1,412 units)
-
Finland (1,288 units)
-
Benelux (1,132 units)
Passionategeekz Note: Except for Switzerland, all the above countries are EU member states. In 2024, the 27 EU countries accounted for about 85% of the total installed capacity in Europe, of which Germany accounted for 30% of the total capacity in Europe, Italy accounted for 10%, and Spain accounted for 6%.
The compound annual growth rate of European robot installations reached 3% from 2019 to 2024. IFR also announced that it will hold a executive roundtable during the Munich Automation Technology Expo on June 25, 2025, when the latest preliminary data will be released.
