Passionategeekz On June 20, DuckDuckGo issued a statement announcing that its built-in fraud blocking tool “Scam Blocker” under the browser of the same name has received a major update, claiming to have significantly expanded the ability to identify and protect various cyber threats, and can identify various false e-commerce websites, cryptocurrency scams, and common “virus warning” fraudulent web pages.

Passionategeekz learned that this “Scam Blocker” fraud blocking tool was first launched in 2018 and was initially used to block malicious URLs. Now this tool supports blocking various fake/phishing websites to prevent users from being maliciously phished by users who believe in the content of the website.

When a user opens the corresponding fraud blocking tool and accesses the web page,The DuckDuckGo browser locally scans the destination URLs visited by the user and compares them with the threat database from the security company Netcraft. The database is updated every 20 minutes to ensure that the latest malicious websites are recognized.

For the “rare or first-time website” visited by users,The browser will also send the corresponding URL to the DuckDuckGo server for verification through anonymous encryption technology.. DuckDuckGo claims that the corresponding process will not disclose the user’s personal identity information. If the website is judged to be suspected of fraud, the browser will “pop up an obvious warning page”. The user can choose to return to the previous security page, or ignore the warning and continue to visit at his own risk.
