Passionategeekz According to June 22, receiving express delivery has now become a convenient channel for many people to shop in daily life. What would you do if you receive a pickup text message but cannot find the express delivery, or if you receive a text message notification that the express delivery was retried due to unsuccessful delivery?
Beijing police recently reported many cases of telegram fraud. After receiving text messages to pick up the express, the callback fell into the trap of a scammer because he did not find the express.
The Beijing public security organs recently reported a number of new types of telecommunications fraud cases that were carried out using express text messages. The fraudsters induce victims to call back their phone calls by sending false pickup information, and commit fraud on the grounds of “million-money renewal”, with the maximum loss in a single case reaching more than 600,000 yuan.
In this case, Mr. Zhang from Beijing received a text message prompting him to pick up the parts at Fengchao Cabinet, but after he arrived, he could not find the express delivery. In desperation, he called back the phone number left on the text message.
Hao Tunan, deputy squadron leader of the Criminal Investigation and Control Squadron of the Criminal Investigation and Control Squadron of the Xicheng Branch of the Beijing Public Security Bureau, introduced that when the phone dialed, the other party said that your express delivery was a million-dollar order number sent to you by Tencent. Because you did not get it in time, the express delivery was taken back, and then said, “Wait, I will transfer you a professional customer service staff to solve this problem for you.”
After the transfer, the so-called professional customer service told Mr. Zhang that the insurance policy has expired and if it is not cancelled in time, a premium of 20,000 yuan will be automatically deducted every month! Mr. Zhang was panicked as soon as he heard this and immediately asked for cancellation.
Hao Tunan said: At this time, the customer service opposite said, I will help you remotely and help you close the so-called million-dollar guarantee, so you won’t have to deduct any fees today. The victim believed the other party out of panic.
In order to “help” Mr. Zhang cancel the insurance policy, the so-called customer service on the phone induces him to click on the SMS link, download an app called “Suyibao”, and ask him to turn on the “screen sharing” function of his mobile phone.
I believe everyone can think of the subsequent scene. With the screen sharing enabled, Mr. Zhang’s mobile phone was remotely controlled by the other party and jumped to multiple mobile banking apps one after another. At the same time, Mr. Zhang also received verification code text messages continuously. In the end, Mr. Zhang lost more than 600,000 yuan. The other party asked Mr. Zhang to reply “cancel the insurance deduction” to avoid his suspicion.
According to Beijing police, false credit reporting fraud is the most common type of telecommunications fraud. Since the beginning of this year, such fraud cases account for 30% of all video fraud cases. Among false credit reporting frauds, the most common method used by fraudsters in recent days is to impersonate express delivery companies to send pickup text messages. So why do scammers succeed repeatedly, and how should we prevent them?
According to statistics from Beijing Xicheng police, among the fraudulent targets of false credit reporting fraud, middle-aged and elderly people over 50 years old accounted for 93.9%, of which 70%. The police said that the methods used in this type of fraud are actually not new, but they are just combined with the current hot topics, making the scam more confusing.
Passionategeekz reminds: If you find abnormal pickup messages when you receive a courier pickup message, be sure to verify the purchase situation through the official app or website, check logistics information, or call the official customer service through the shopping platform for consultation. Do not call back the strange phone number on the text message easily!
Shen Wenjing, the squadron leader of the Criminal Investigation Detachment of the Xicheng Branch of the Beijing Public Security Bureau, said: As long as you remember, when registering WeChat Pay, Alipay, and Douyin, you will automatically activate the million-dollar guarantee service for free. This business is completely free. It does not expire or expire, and it will not require payment and renewal. So as long as you hear that fraudsters have to renew your fees because the million-dollar guarantee expires, it must be a fraud.
