Ahead of WWDC25, reports from Bloomberg reveal Apple’s plan to rename its operating systems to reflect the release year instead of traditional version numbers. For example:
- iOS 19 will become iOS 26
- iPadOS 19 will be iPadOS 26
- macOS 16 will shift to macOS 26
- Similarly, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS will adopt the “26” suffix
This change aligns Apple’s OS naming convention with the calendar year, similar to how automotive manufacturers label their new models. It signals a streamlined approach to OS identification moving forward.
What to Expect at WWDC25
Besides unveiling the new operating system lineup, Apple is expected to showcase its latest advancements in artificial intelligence. The event will highlight how AI integrates across Apple’s ecosystem, driving innovation and enhanced user experiences.
