Apple has officially released a significant update to its professional filming companion app, Final Cut Camera version 2.4. The new release is tailored specifically to take advantage of the latest hardware advances in the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, giving cinematographers and independent creators much deeper manual control over their productions.
Granular Aperture Controls and Cinema Monitoring
The centerpiece of the version 2.4 rollout is direct support for the variable aperture system built into the Fusion Main camera on the iPhone 18 Pro. Videographers can now manually choose aperture values ranging from f/1.48 down to f/4.0. The interface also introduces aperture priority and shutter priority shooting modes, allowing creators to manage their exposure and depth of field with mechanical precision rather than relying on digital simulation.
For editors working in post-production, the update extends Cinematic mode adjustments to standard video captures, including high-end ProRes and Apple Log formats. This means focus racks and depth parameters can be reworked directly inside Final Cut Pro on Mac or iPad after shooting wraps.
Studio and multi-camera crews also gain several broadcast-level monitoring utilities. The updated app incorporates RGB Parade scopes and luminance histograms to ensure precise exposure across individual color channels. In addition, support for clean SDI output enables pristine streaming via HDMI-to-SDI converters, while genlock offset calibration prevents sync drift and screen artifacts when running multiple cameras simultaneously.
