New leaks from AMD’s internal Technical Information Portal have revealed key details about upcoming additions to the Zen5 family, specifically the powerful Threadripper PRO 9000WX series and the versatile desktop Ryzen 9000G APU lineup. These developments point to significant architectural advancements and broadened use cases for both professional workstations and consumer desktops.
The Threadripper PRO 9000WX, codenamed “Shimada Peak,” is set to continue using the sTR5 socket and is positioned as AMD’s next-generation workstation-grade CPU series. Notably, only the PRO variant has been spotted so far, with no sign yet of a standard enthusiast-grade Threadripper 9000 for high-end desktops. This may indicate AMD’s renewed focus on the professional market for its ultra-high-performance chips.
On the consumer side, the Ryzen 9000G APU series, codenamed “Gorgon Point,” represents the next generation of desktop APUs. Based on an upgraded version of the Strix Point architecture, these chips will feature Zen5 CPU cores and RDNA3.5 integrated graphics. The configuration supports up to 12 CPU cores and 16 GPU compute units, delivering a powerful all-in-one solution for mainstream desktops. Gorgon Point will also extend to mobile platforms with three variants: Gorgon Point 1, 2, and 3—essentially serving as refined versions of the Ryzen AI 300 series.
While the high-end Strix Halo chip with 40 GPU compute units won’t be coming to desktops, AMD is already laying the groundwork for its next-generation AI-focused mobile CPUs. A third codename, “Medusa1,” has surfaced and is believed to be part of the upcoming Ryzen AI 400 series. These processors may feature Zen6 cores, pushing AI and productivity capabilities even further into the future.
These developments reflect AMD’s aggressive push across both workstation and consumer platforms, with a clear roadmap that blends raw performance, integrated AI, and advanced graphics. With Zen5 set to power everything from powerful desktops to AI-enabled laptops, AMD’s next wave of processors promises to be one of its most versatile and forward-looking yet.
