Vivo has officially confirmed that it will launch a new smartphone powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC. While the Vivo X300 Series, comprising the X300 and X300 Pro, is already set to launch in China on October 13 with the Dimensity 9500 chipset, this Snapdragon-powered device is expected to be the X300 Ultra.

The reasoning aligns with Vivo’s previous pattern: the X200 Ultra, launched earlier this year in China, featured the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC. It is likely that Vivo will follow the same strategy for its next-generation Ultra model.

Although official details are still under wraps, early rumours indicate that the X300 Ultra could feature dual 200MP rear cameras — one main sensor and a periscope telephoto unit with an 85mm focal length. The periscope camera is expected to utilise a 1/1.4-inch Samsung ISOCELL HPB sensor, recently customised for Vivo, which may also be included in the X300 Pro.

Like its X300 and X300 Pro siblings, the X300 Ultra is anticipated to integrate Vivo’s proprietary video chip and in-house imaging chip, combined with Zeiss T* coating for enhanced optical clarity. On the front, it is expected to house a 50MP autofocus selfie camera with a 92-degree field of view, matching the specifications of the X300 and X300 Pro models.

With this announcement, Vivo joins other major brands confirming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5-powered smartphones, highlighting the chip’s growing presence in the global flagship segment.
