[CNMO Technology News]According to the latest data, China’s total automobile imports from January to May 2025 were 180,000 vehicles, a decrease of 33% from the same period last year. This decline has been particularly significant in the data over the same period in recent years. Specifically in May, the number of imported vehicles reached 47,000, although it increased by 9% from April, but it still fell by 25% year-on-year. Since the import car market reached a peak of 1.43 million vehicles in 2014, the market has entered a downward channel and has been slightly stable between 2016 and 2017. However, since 2018, the sales of imported cars have continued to decline, with the annual imports in 2024 being only 700,000 vehicles, a 12% decrease from the previous year. At present, the contraction pressure in the imported automobile market is still significant.

From the perspective of the main import sources, the top ten countries in May 2025 are Japan (21,247 units), Germany (10,148 units), Slovakia (6,689 units), the United Kingdom (3,618 units), the United States (3,130 units), Sweden (455 units), Austria (319 units), Hungary (293 units), South Korea (139 units) and Italy (128 units). Among them, the five countries with the largest increase compared with the same period last year are: Slovakia (adding 2,372 vehicles), Japan (adding 966 vehicles), South Korea (adding 88 vehicles), Spain (adding 79 vehicles) and Finland (adding 72 vehicles).

Judging from the overall performance in the first five months of 2025, the top ten source countries with the most imported cars in China are Japan (70,037), Germany (41,676), Slovakia (25,833), the United States (18,848), the United Kingdom (14,734), Sweden (3,185), Mexico (1,882), Austria (1,309), Hungary (753) and South Korea (589). It is worth noting that compared with the same period last year, the five countries with the largest increase in imports are Slovakia (increase of 2015), Finland (increase of 264), Spain (increase of 149), Belgium (increase of 102) and Vietnam (increase of 34).
