Passionategeekz On June 23, X Display Company (XDC) has announced a new high-speed panel (display system) with a frame rate of up to 1 million frames per second (FPS). Although the company adopts the term “FPS”, a common gaming field, this display system is obviously not for e-sports players. It is mainly used for communication purposes

Passionategeekz learned that this system consists of an ultra-high-speed Micro LED panel as the transmitter and a high-frame rate camera as the receiver. It is said that it can display/transmit optical signals per second and achieve high-speed real-time communication without cables. However, XDC has not announced the data capacity of a single frame.

XDC said the system has the ability to dynamically adjust according to bandwidth requirements, and its energy efficiency is “two to three times” better than the existing 800G fiber optic communication module. At the same time, the system does not require physical connections such as fiber or copper cables, which can bring greater flexibility and maintenance convenience to the data center and significantly reduce costs, but the company has not disclosed the specific power consumption figures of the corresponding system.

Additionally, the company claims that with technological improvements, the system is expected to achieve 1 Tbps level data throughput in the future, which, for comparison, is ahead of the current 800G fiber optic communication module, but is still slightly lower than the expected performance of the next generation 1600G (1.6 Tbps).

Although the XDC technology has a tempting prospect on paper, its true scope of application is unknown. At present, the corresponding technologies are more likely to be first applied in specific vertical fields or experimental data center scenarios, and large-scale implementation still faces considerable challenges.
