OLED displays could become much more common in laptops over the next few years. TrendForce expects global OLED notebook shipments to grow by nearly 40% in 2026 and more than 40% in 2027.

The research firm expects shipments to rise from about 12.6 million units in 2026 to 46.6 million by 2030.

Why OLED laptops are gaining attention

OLED screens can show deep blacks, strong contrast and rich colours. These features can be useful for video editing, photo work, entertainment and other tasks where image quality matters.

Apple’s new tandem OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro could also encourage other laptop makers to expand their OLED product lines.

However, OLED laptops are not automatically better for every buyer. Price, brightness, battery life, colour accuracy and the type of work all matter.

What happens next?

TrendForce expects OLED adoption to continue growing, although the overall laptop market faces pressure from higher component costs. Apple is expected to sell about 1.2 million to 1.5 million OLED MacBook Pro units in 2027, according to the firm’s forecast.

These are market projections, not guaranteed shipment results.

OLED is moving beyond premium phones and tablets into more laptops. More competition could eventually bring better display options to a wider range of buyers, but price and real-world performance will remain key buying factors.
