30 Days With the Vivo T4R 5G: Does It Still Impress?

I’ll skip the usual talk about design, slimness, or flashy selling points that the brand has already marketed. Instead, this review focuses purely on day-to-day performance and practical usability. I’m not questioning durability here; the intent is to share how the device holds up in regular, everyday use.

Well, the AMOLED display on the Vivo T4R does its job fairly well. I wouldn’t call it the best AMOLED out there, but it’s definitely not the worst either. You can comfortably use the phone in broad daylight, though at times you might find yourself struggling to locate apps or navigate menus. Even at full brightness, direct sunlight can make visibility a challenge—but given the price point, that’s somewhat acceptable. The real issue, however, begins when the device starts to heat up under direct sunlight, which raises questions about its thermal optimization.

Struggles in Handling Read/Write Tasks Due to Lower UFS

Well, the Vivo T4R managed to impress me in both areas, but it performs noticeably better when handling one task at a time. If you’re a heavy multitasker, I’d suggest skipping this device for now. The absence of a higher version of UFS storage directly affects the read/write speeds.

For example, I ran a read/write speed test on the Vivo T4R. The read speed was impressive at 1344MB/s, but the write speed lagged behind at under 500MB/s. When attempting to run a high-end game during such heavy tasks, the phone struggled to keep up and often froze, ultimately forcing a restart.

Impressive Dual Stereo Speakers for Everyday Use

The dual stereo speakers are impressively loud without distorting the audio, which is a good thing. You can even test the left and right channels individually to notice the difference. The right speaker, positioned at the bottom, is noticeably louder as it serves as the primary output, while the left speaker delivers sound from the top, also doubling up for calls when on loudspeaker mode.

Smart AI Erase Feature, but Lacks Clarity in Results

The Smart AI Erase is easily one of the best AI features on the Vivo T4R, and the best part is that it comes built-in—no need to pay for third-party apps that usually charge for such tools. Many brands are now adding AI features directly into their software to make them more accessible and to showcase the progress of artificial intelligence in smartphones. I tested it on several of my own photos, removing unwanted objects, and the results were surprisingly impressive.

Another feature worth mentioning is AI Enhancement. While the brand seems confident about its effectiveness and some users may find it useful, my experience was a bit different. The feature works well for properly clicked portrait shots, but if the portrait is slightly blurry or taken in low light, the system simply refuses to enhance it—which feels limiting.

Overall, the AI features on the Vivo T4R are quite impressive, but there’s definitely room for improvement, especially in making them more reliable across different shooting conditions.

Whether it’s day or night, Vivo rarely disappoints when it comes to capturing memories. The night shots in particular are truly impressive across all camera modes. I can’t deny that Vivo has made huge progress in this area—the AI integration seems to play a big role in producing these stunning results. In fact, I managed to capture some late-night scenes that were barely visible to my eyes, yet the phone made it look like night never existed.

As for daylight photography, the T4R also performs very well. The contrast is spot on, and the colors usually look natural. There are moments when certain shades, like red, appear slightly off—sometimes leaning toward orange—but this is something that can easily be improved with software updates. Thankfully, Vivo promises two years of OS updates, which means users can expect refinements and improvements over time.

Now, talking about gaming, the Vivo T4R delivers an experience you can truly rely on. Powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7400, the device handles high-end titles with ease. I tested several popular Android games, ranging from graphics-heavy action titles like Free Fire, to immersive puzzles such as The Room series, and even the racing powerhouse Asphalt 9. All of them ran smoothly with no noticeable frame drops.

The only issue I observed was a minor glitch or freeze while playing one of the games from The Room series, but aside from that, everything else performed flawlessly. The device does generate some heat during extended gaming sessions—which is expected—but it never becomes unmanageable. Thanks to the optimized chipset, the phone manages thermals reasonably well, ensuring a stable and enjoyable gaming experience.

Final Verdict: Shines in Gaming and Cameras

After spending over a month with the Vivo T4R, I can confidently say it’s a smartphone that balances strengths and shortcomings. On the positive side, it delivers impressive night photography, reliable daylight shots, and a genuinely enjoyable gaming experience powered by the Dimensity 7400, with smooth frame rates and efficient heat management. The dual stereo speakers also stand out, offering loud and clear sound without distortion, while the built-in AI features like Smart Erase add real value without additional costs.

That said, the device isn’t flawless. The lower UFS storage results in sluggish read/write speeds when handling large files, and thermal optimization under direct sunlight remains questionable. The AI enhancements, though promising, need more refinement to work consistently across different conditions. Even the AMOLED display, while decent, struggles under bright sunlight and occasionally heats up outdoors.

At this price point, however, the Vivo T4R still delivers one of the best all-round experiences for daily use, especially if you value strong cameras, enjoyable gaming, and multimedia performance. It may not be perfect, but it’s a capable and reliable daily driver for most users.
