Samsung is gearing up for a big summer with the launch of its next-generation foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, expected this July. After a relatively modest upgrade with last year’s models, fans are eagerly awaiting significant advancements—and if the latest rumors hold true, Samsung might deliver one of its most impressive innovations yet.
Recent reports suggest that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 could claim the title of the world’s thinnest foldable smartphone. The device is rumored to measure just 8.2mm thick when folded, a notable reduction that would undercut the Oppo Find N5, which currently holds the record at 8.9mm. Compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which measures 12.1mm folded, the Z Fold 7 could see a thickness reduction of over 30%.
If achieved, this engineering feat would not only set a new industry benchmark but also address one of the biggest user concerns: bulkiness when folded. A sleeker, thinner form factor would undoubtedly make the Fold 7 more appealing to a broader range of consumers.
However, this 8.2mm figure does contradict earlier leaks that suggested a more plausible 9.5mm thickness. It’s still unclear how Samsung would manage such a drastic reduction without compromising key components that define the Galaxy Z Fold series as a premium flagship experience.
Fans are hopeful that this rumor becomes reality, as a major design overhaul could be exactly what the Galaxy Z Fold lineup needs to reclaim its edge in the highly competitive foldable market. With innovation like this, Samsung might also find it easier to justify the steep price tags that have historically accompanied its foldables.
All eyes are now on July—Samsung’s next moves could reshape the future of foldable smartphones once again.
