Whatsapp has introduced a new feature for Android beta users, so that you can scan the document inside the app itself. By the way, these features are already using iOS users. It will now be released for Android.
Highlights
- Whatsapp introduced a document scanning feature for Android beta users.
- This feature will be available as a ‘scan document’ option in the attachment menu.
- After taking the photo, WhatsApp will allow the image to be shared by converting the image into PDF.
The document scanning feature was first seen in the Android version 2.25.18.29 of whatsapp beta, when it was in its early phase. Now this feature has become available for public test. Many beta users have given information about using this new feature after downloading the latest version from Google Play Store.
After the recent update, a new ‘scan document’ feature has been added to the attachment menu. This feature appears with the already existing ‘browsed documents’ and ‘choose from the gallery’ option. Tapping on this new feature opens the camera of your Android device, so that you can take a photo of the document and share it directly. This feature has two shooting options: manual and auto. In manual mode, the users themselves can decide when to take a photo, while in automatic mode WhatsApp itself recognizes the edges of the document and takes photos, which makes the scanning process easier.
After taking the photo, WhatsApp immediately processes the image and converts into PDF format. With this, the file can be shared immediately in personal chat or group messages. The entire scanning and conversion process is on the user’s phone itself, in which the native document capture API of Android is used.
