Google Chrome can stop working on these Android phones since August, is your device too in the list?

New Delhi. If you are still using the old Android phone running on Android 8 (Oreo) or Android 9 (Pie) and use Google Chrome browser, then you need to upgrade your phone soon. In fact, Google has officially announced that it is ending the support of Chrome for devices running on these old Android versions. From the first week of August 2025, Chrome will require Android 10 or higher versions to get updates.

This change will be effective with the release of Chrome 139, which is expected to come around 5 August 2025. According to this, Chrome 138 will be the final version for Android 8 and 9 users. Although this old browser version will continue to work at the moment, it will not get any security patch, upgrade or new facilities in the future.

What does it mean?

If you are still using the phone at Android 8 or 9, Chrome will not stop working overnight, but it will not be updated and will not be safe either. Over time, the lack of updates can make you sensitive to bugs or safety flaws, especially if you often browse or do sensitive work online.

Google advised in a post on his support page:
Google has said in a post on its support page that we encourage users to upgrade Android 8.0 or 9.0 to upgrade Android 10.0 or later so that Chrome updates are received. According to the data of April 2025, Android 9 is still active on 6% android phones, while Android 8 and 8.1 together are about 4%. This means that 10 out of 1 android users of about 1 will be deprived of future Chrome reforms.
