[CNMO Technology News]According to Cui Dongshu, Secretary-General of the China Passenger Car Association, from January to May 2025, the Chinese automobile industry showed a continuous positive trend in the face of external shocks and internal challenges. According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, automobile production increased by 11% year-on-year, of which the production of new energy vehicles reached 5.64 million, and the penetration rate reached 44%. Although automobile consumption was the same as the same period last year, the overall retail sales of consumer goods increased to 20317.1 billion yuan, an increase of 5.0%.

As of May 2025, the national automobile production reached 2.64 million units, an increase of 11% year-on-year. What is particularly prominent is that the production of new energy vehicles reached 1.25 million units, a significant increase of 32% year-on-year, and its market penetration rate rose to 47%. In contrast, fuel vehicle production still dominated, but fell 2% year-on-year to 1.4 million units. This data shows that with the advancement of environmental protection policies and technological progress, new energy vehicles are gradually becoming the mainstream choice in the market.

In the first five months of 2025, the added value of industrial enterprises above designated size increased by 6.3% year-on-year, of which the added value of the automobile industry increased by 11.2%, showing strong growth momentum. Especially in May, the added value of the automobile industry increased by 11.6% year-on-year, higher than the overall industrial level.

Cui Dongshu said that the recent passenger car replacement policies issued by various places have had a positive impact on the auto market, especially the stimulating effect on fuel vehicles. However, the scale of the scrap subsidy policy is limited and has failed to have a large-scale impact on the market. In the future, we look forward to more long-term and strong continuation policies, such as reducing personal income tax for car buyers, and promoting the countryside of new energy vehicles, so as to further stimulate consumption demand and promote economic growth.
