This news came directly from Naoki Hamaguchi, director of the Final Fantasy VII Remake series, during a recent “Creator’s Voice” video shared by Nintendo of America. In the video, Hamaguchi expresses his excitement about bringing the fan-favorite game to a powerful portable platform like the Switch 2. “With the power of the Switch 2, we can now recreate Midgar with full specs,” he said, emphasizing the ability to maintain fidelity to the original while utilizing modern hardware capabilities.

First released in 2020 for the PlayStation 4, Final Fantasy VII Remake was later enhanced for PS5 under the title Intergrade, offering graphical improvements and additional content. Now, that same elevated experience will be available on the go—something previously unavailable to fans of the remake series. Hamaguchi highlighted the joy of being able to play on commutes or casually share progress with friends in a way that handheld devices uniquely allow.

Perhaps even more exciting is his subtle hint that the entire Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy may be headed to Switch 2. Although only Intergrade is officially confirmed at this stage, Hamaguchi’s use of “series” has sparked major speculation that all three parts will eventually arrive on the platform.

While Intergrade and the second remake installment are already available on PC, this marks the franchise’s debut on a Nintendo handheld—something many fans have dreamed of since the original game’s 1997 release on PlayStation.

As the countdown to Switch 2’s release continues, the announcement of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade only intensifies the buzz around what could be Nintendo’s most powerful and versatile console yet.
