[CNMO Technology News]According to reliable sources, Apple has started to conduct long-term testing of iOS 18.6. At present, a large number of devices equipped with this version of the system have appeared in the access log, indicating that the testing work is being accelerated.
According to the information provided by the relevant account, the first test version of iOS 18.6 is expected to be released in the short term, and its internal construction number is “22G5054d”. Although this is a regular update focusing on fixing vulnerabilities and improving security, it is not ruled out that some small new features will be added. Previously, it was reported that this version was originally planned to enable Apple Intelligence in the Chinese market, but due to delays in regulatory approval, this feature may not be launched in this update.
Looking back at history, Apple usually releases the “.6” version update for iOS system in June or July every year. For example, iOS 13.6 released its first developer beta version on June 1, 2020 and was officially pushed on July 15 of the same year; iOS 17.6 started testing on June 17, 2024 and was finally officially launched on July 29. According to this rhythm, it is likely that the official release date of iOS 18.6 will also be in July this year.
Judging from the content, most of the past “.6” version updates focus on optimizing system stability, fixing known problems, and enhancing security. For example, iOS 14.6 introduced Apple Podcasts subscription support, AirTag search function improvement, etc.; while iOS 15.6 mainly brought the recovery function of live sports broadcasts in TV applications. It is expected that iOS 18.6 will continue a similar update strategy.
In addition, although there are no signs of iOS 18.5.1, Apple may skip this version directly and enter the release process of iOS 18.6. After completing this update, Apple may also launch iOS 18.7 in September as the last large-scale security patch update for the older system, and the company will then turn to the development and testing of iOS 26.
